Can you break a Soul Contract?

This is a question that has been asked by many people over the centuries. When we enter into a soul contract, we do so with the intention of fulfilling it. But what happens when that contract is no longer serving us or turns toxic? Can we break it and move on?

First and foremost, what is a soul contract, you ask? In VERY simple terms, a soul contract is an agreement that is made between two or more souls before they incarnate (are born).

These agreements can be anything from agreeing to help each other learn and grow in this life, to agreements involving contracts of service.

Some of these contracts are Karmic (meaning you both have karma from past lives to work through) and some are very loving (like your grandma who took care of you when no one else would, etc).

But what happens when that contract is no longer serving us and/or turns incredibly painful and toxic? Can we break it and move on?

The short answer is yes, but it isn’t always easy and there are potential consequences involved.

THE BEST way to exit out of a soul contract is to HEAL out of it.

If you can identify the karma you are working through with someone and set your intentions on healing the karmic cycle, you will clear the karma and won’t have to come back and do this all over again …

How do you heal karma? You have to forgive.

To quote Dolores Cannon “The quickest, but not necessarily the easiest way to get rid of karma is to forgive. Let it go.”

As you can imagine, this is a tough one for many people who have been terribly hurt by people that should have been protecting them and they have a difficult time forgiving.

The best advice I can give you is that forgiveness is NOT FOR THEM. It’s for you to let go of the toxicity that’s inside you and hurting your body, mind and soul.

It’s not always easy to reach this forgiveness point on your own and sometimes requires working with an energy healer to help you move through some of this (if interested, this is something I can help with).

What if the contract is incredibly toxic and you need out?

The reason that a Soul Contract can turn toxic is human free will. Sometimes, the other person takes it too far and causes too much damage – and you need out.

Before we talk about how to accomplish this, I’d like to point out that if the karma still needs to be worked through, you may have to encounter this person/situation in a future lifetime (but that will be up to your soul to decide when you’re in the ethers before incarnation).

I would encourage you to talk to your Higher Self or Spirit Guides about whether or not breaking the contract is the right decision for you.

You can do this via mediation – or again – seek the help of an Intuitive Practitioner (I can help with this).

How to break a Soul Contract:

  • Set the intention to break the contract. This is an important step, as it will help you to release yourself from its energy.
  • Visualize breaking the contract and releasing yourself from its energy

You can do this even if the person you’re angry with has passed on. If this person is still alive in this lifetime, you can do this mentally – as often engaging with them is too painful.

Picture yourself tearing up the contract with this person and while saying out loud: “We tried, it didn’t work. I forgive you I release you, I let you go.”

Some have told me when they get into this energy, they see themselves throwing this contract into the fire and letting the flame burn the energetic tie between them.

Breaking a soul contract can be a liberating experience, but it’s important to make sure that it’s truly what you need at this time. If you’re not sure, take some time to connect with your intuition and listen to what it’s telling you. Trust that you’ll know what to do.
